Full Log or Split Log Construction Options

First of all, what's the difference?

  • Full log is a solid log wall like you would expect a log home to be.
  • Split log is a partial log attached to a 2" X 6" conventional insulated wall.
Shown below are different profiles.

We Have Three "D" Shaped Full Logs

  • Log Profile number 2 is our best selling full log ever. It has double tongue and grooves and a not so round exterior.

  • Log Profile number 4 has a super round exterior. It doesn't have tongue & grooves. The builder on-site routes a groove. Why? Because some people don't want to see tongue and grooves exposed on the exterior butt and pass corners.

If you have always wanted to buy a full log home but were worried about settling, energy efficiency, how to run the electrical wires, and plumbing; you can feel confident in buying a Golden Eagle full log home with all our construction options. We only use dry logs. You can see photos on this site of our dry log inventory. We have a huge dry inventory (most companies can't afford to do this). This means our full log wall will only settle approximately 3/8" total.
Our 8"X8" full log walls have a high thermal mass property meaning it absorbs energy and releases it. The R-Factor is only 10 but your actual heating and cooling costs will be about the same as an R-19 wall. We use Log Builder caulk and compression seal on all joints. 1 1/4" dowels are used to strengthen and seal all butt joints.
Even on a full log home, Golden Eagle's walls on the second floor, gable ends, dormers, and walk outs are insulated 2"X6" construction with split logs. This makes for a more sensible full log home. Garage walls are also split log, except over 2"X4" wall.
As for running the wiring and plumbing, we can show you how. Please note that all the interior partition walls are 2"X4" walls so they can be conventionally wired and plumbed.
If you have any more questions about Golden Eagle full log construction, please ask one of us.
Golden Eagle's split log homes are conventionally framed insulated 2"X6" exterior walls with one of our split log styles attached to the exterior. Golden Eagle's butt and pass corners are cut out of a solid log so you can't tell it from a full log. Absolutely, positively nobody can question the settling issue, the energy issue, the running of the electrical or plumbing because it's an energy efficient 2"X6" conventional home.
Vertical peeled corners are also available at a slight cost savings.
